The gamescom Asia 2026 Cosplay Zone opens in Bangkok from 29 October to 1 November 2026. Cosplay lives inside the fan-facing entertainment area. It has a big cosplay contest, star guests and a new anime expo next door.
This guide keeps it short. You get dates, contest rules, prizes, highlights and tips for US fans.
gamescom Asia 2026 Cosplay Zone: What to Expect in Bangkok
The show runs at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). Here is what matters most.
Where and when is gamescom Asia 2026? The event takes place from 29 October to 1 November 2026 at QSNCC in Bangkok. See the official dates page for hall hours.
How big is it? The 2025 edition drew 206,159 visitors, 5,590 business professionals and 294 exhibitors and pavilions. That is a large crowd for cosplayers and photographers alike.
What is new in 2026? The entertainment area grows to four halls for the first time, with more than 35,000 sqm of space. More room means more stages and more space for the cosplay showcase.
Do the opening days match? Not quite. The business area runs 29–30 October. Fan activities are listed from 30 October. Check the official page before you book.
Who runs it? It is a gamescom global division, supported by depa and organised with Koelnmesse, Show NoLimit and Online Station. The Cologne show has a similar setup: the Cosplay Village presented by Payop, which sits in Hall 5.1.
gamescom Asia 2026 Cosplay Competition: Categories & Prize Pool
The cosplay contest is the main draw of the cosplay zone. Here is how it looks so far.
How big is the cosplay contest prize pool? It is 300,000 baht, a step up from before. At recent rates of about 32.6 to 33.8 baht per dollar, that is roughly $8,900 to $9,200. Rates move daily, so check before you plan.
What are the categories? A new Best Duo category joins Solo, Team and All-Star. Duo is a good fit for friends who build matching characters.
When is the deadline? Registration runs from 24 August to 30 September. As of 18 September, that leaves about 12 days.
What do judges usually reward? Bangkok’s full rulebook is not public in the sources I checked. The Cologne contest rules show how a gamescom jury thinks:
- Applicants must be 18+ and the costume at least 80% self-made.
- Prejudging covers craftsmanship, complexity, techniques, materials, accuracy to the reference, makeup and proportions.
- On stage, judges look at entertainment value, mobility, props, clear performance and overall impression.
- Stage time was one minute, with no microphone.
Treat these as a guide, not Bangkok’s rules. A costume you can move in scores better than a heavy build you cannot.

Who are the guests? John Romero and Xiaoyukiko will meet fans, along with Thai creators such as zbing z. and EVA GAMER. Romero will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Who performs? Thai-Japanese idol Cherprang Areekul will perform the event’s theme song on the main stage.

Why is it taboo to cosplay publicly in Japan?
It is a social rule, not a law. Comiket’s official guide says arriving or leaving in costume is not allowed because Japanese society generally does not accept costume in public. The basic rule is no cosplay in public unless it is at an event. That is why events provide changing rooms.
